Following the resignation of Antonio Luna, Raúl Baridó (photo) was named Undersecretary for Rail Transport by Argentina’s Transport & Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo on September 5.
Baridó had previously been supervising technical, administrative and operational affairs on the suburban lines formerly operated under the Trenes de Buenos Aires concession. The federal government revoked the TBA concession in May in the wake of the fatal accident at Once in February, which killed more than 50 people.
Operation of the Sarmiento and Mitre networks has since been transferred to a new joint venture of Ferrovías and Metrovías.
