POLAND: A consortium of PPP Solutions Polska and Gülermak Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt was the lowest bidder for a 1·126bn złoty pilot public-private partnership contract to finance, design, build and maintain a section of tramway in Kraków.

The project is one of several in different sectors which the government is using to pilot PPP schemes in Poland, and will provide experience for other cities considering similar financing models.

The 4·5 km double-track route with 10 stops is scheduled to open in 2024, with the contractor then providing 20 years of maintenance.

The route will start at the junction of ul Jana Pawła II and ul Januaza Meissnera, then run along ul Janusza Meissnera, Młyńska, Ljublańska, Dobre Pastrzerz, Krzesławicka and Bohomloca to the existing loop at Mistrzejowice. It includes a 940 m tunnel under the Polsad roundabout with an underground stop.
