RUSSIA: Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin approved a tram line linking the city’s metro network to the satellite town of Troitsk on October 12.

The 17·8 km route would link the town of 40 000, which lies 37 km southwest of the centre of Moscow, with Prokshino metro station, which is due to open as the terminus of an extended Line 1 in 2019.

The segregated alignment would have 14 stops and four turning loops. Average speeds of 29 km/h would give an end-to-end journey time of 37 min. Ridership is forecast at between 12 000 and 15 700 passengers a day. Three more lines are planned for Troitsk.
