SERBIA: Colas Rail has awarded Saft and local distributor Goltech a contract to provide almost 800 batteries to provide backup power for trackside signalling, safety and communication equipment along a 58 km section of Corridor X.

Colas Rail is modernising the route in partnership with local company Energoprojekt Niskogradnja.

Saft says its SBLE block and KPL nickel batteries are designed to withstand extreme temperatures and require little maintenance, offering high performance and reliability over a life of typically of 20 years or more. This is in contrast to valve-regulated lead-acid batteries, which last up to seven years and can experience ‘sudden death’,

‘Infra ZS wanted reliable backup for safe train operations at the same time as low total cost of ownership’, said Roland Knobloch, Saft’s Sales Manager for Central Europe. ‘Saft nickel battery technology is proven to achieve both as it has provided more than 20 years of reliable operation at similar trackside installations.’
