NORTH AMERICA: Marmon Rail has launched a mobile system for the on-site cleaning of tank wagons without the need for anyone to enter confined spaces containing hazardous residues.
‘Seeing first hand the risks of traditional cleaning methods inspired me to develop a safer alternative’, said the wagon repair and maintenance group’s Operations Manager Evan Ingram, who spent four years developing, testing and patenting ProTecht. ‘Our mobile, autonomous system eliminates the need for operators to enter hazardous environments.’

ProTecht is compatible with all types of tank wagon. It has three cleaning modes tailored to the commodity being handled:
- water filtration, offering efficient cleaning for light residues;
- steam injection, with precision cleaning for midgrade commodities;
- automated cannon system, providing high-impact cleaning for hardened residues.
The closed-loop system filters and reuses water and detergent, reducing waste, extending operational uptime and minimising the environmental impact.
ProTecht is operated by Marmon Rail’s UTLX business in the USA and Procor in Canada.
‘If it ships in a tank car, ProTecht can clean it’, said Jay McGill, President Repair Services, On-Site & Mobile.
