EUROPE: Leasing company Alpha Trains has awarded Siemens Mobility a firm order to supply and maintain a further 15 Vectron Dual Mode electro-diesel freight locomotives.
The 160 km/h locomotives with a maximum power at the wheel of 2·4 MW in electric mode and 2 MW using diesel power are intended for use in Germany and Austria, complementing Alpha Trains’ existing fleet of Vectron AC, MS and Dual Mode locos.
The order announced on October 1 has been placed under a framework agreement covering up to 70 locos which was signed in July 2024. They will be maintained under a 2023 framework agreement.
‘The decision to expand our Vectron fleet again is a logical step towards the future’, said Vincent Pouyet, Managing Director for Locomotives at Alpha Trains. ‘Our customers are looking for intelligent and sustainable solutions – and that’s exactly what dual-mode locomotives offer. They provide the necessary operational flexibility on a wide variety of routes and significantly reduce emissions by replacing older generation diesel engines with modern, more environmentally friendly technology.’
