FRANCE: Faiveley Transport has been awarded contracts totalling more than US$100m to supply subsystems for 71 X'Trapolis Cityduplex double-deck electric multiple-units which SNCF has ordered from a consortium of Alstom and Bombardier Transportation for use on Paris suburban lines D and E.
Wabtec company Faiveley Transport is to design and supply the complete braking systems, along with cab and saloon heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, door systems, pantographs and tachometers.
This will involve Faiveley sites in France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and the Czech Republic. Deliveries are scheduled to start by September 2018 and be completed by 2022.
Signing the contracts ‘represents a great success for Wabtec and Faiveley Transport, with all of our major product lines represented on-board the new trains’, said Wabtec President & CEO Raymond T Betler on October 10. ‘We believe this project will enable us to further develop our collaboration with Alstom, Bombardier Transportation and SNCF’.
The consortium of Alstom and Bombardier Transportation was the sole bidder for the framework contract covering up to 255 EMUs, with an initial €1·55bn firm order for 56 six-car and 15 seven-car units announced by SNCF on January 11.
Eight Alstom sites are involved in the contract: Valenciennes (project management, design, testing, commissioning, warranty support, driving car production and final integration); Reichshoffen (design); Ornans (traction motors); Le Creusot (bogies); Villeurbanne (on-board electronics); Tarbes (traction systems); Petit-Quevilly (transformers) and Saint Ouen (design).
Bombardier’s Crespin plant will design and manufacture the intermediate cars.
