GERMANY: Deutsche Bahn has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract for the first scheduled inspection and maintenance of 40 ICE4 high speed trainsets, with an option covering a further 50.

The largest servicing contract which the operator has awarded to Siemens Mobility is for the IS 600 inspections which are required after a trainset’s first 1∙65 million km of operation.

The work, which is to be undertaken from mid-2021 at the Siemens Mobility Test & Validation Center at Wegberg-Wildenrath, will include inspection of onboard systems and components, and maintenance of the doors, windscreen washers, couplers, bogies, pantographs, train control systems and brakes. Interior maintenance will cover fire alarms, passenger information systems, buffet equipment and sanitary facilities. The wheelsets will be exchanged on all the trainsets.

Deutsche Bahn has ordered a total of 137 ICE4 trainsets since May 2011. The first entered service in 2016 and 65 had been delivered by December 2020, with new sets arriving every three weeks.
