GUINEA: Mining company Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée has taken delivery of coaches and wagons manufactured by China’s CRRC for use on its 135 km standard gauge heavy haul line linking the Sangarédi bauxite mine with Kamsar.

The €3·6m order includes four coaches to replace life-expired passenger vehicles, each with 60 seats and a toilet, plus a baggage car. There are also 10 flat wagons for carrying containers, heavy loads and industrial equipment, and 10 ballast wagons for track maintenance.

Financial support for the order was provided by the National Agency for the Development of Mining Infrastructure and by companies which use CBG trains to transport freight.

‘The acquisition of the passenger cars and wagons proves that joint efforts are more effective than individual actions’, said CBG General Director Karifa Condé, adding that the new passenger train would offer a reliable, modern and safe alternative to congested roads while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
