BRAZIL: Marcopolo Rail has signed a contract to supply three Prosper City diesel multiple-units for Piauí state government-owned operator CFLP.
They are to be used on the 16 km metre-gauge diesel suburban rail network in state capital Teresina. This Y-shaped network has two branches, linking Engenheiro Alberto Tavares Silva terminus in the centre to Itararé and Colorado in the east.
The two two-car and one three-car DMUs are to have 1 100 mm high entrances for the high platforms and wide doors. The three-car version will have a capacity of 560 passengers.
‘With this initiative, we are expanding our operations in the country and reinforcing our strategy of advancing solutions for urban transportation. We strongly believe in the potential of the Brazilian rail segment, which is fully capable of meeting high-capacity travel needs with speed, efficiency, and comfort, while also offering several cost-benefit advantages in the medium term’, says Petras Amaral, Managing Director of Marcopolo Rail.
