Australia: Bombardier Transportation is to supply four additional Flexity trams to the Gold Coast under a A$25m contract. The trams are to be used on the Stage 2 extension to Helensvale, and form an option that was part of the original contract signed in 2011 for 14 trams.

Austria: The city of Innsbruck, the Land of Tirol and transport authority IVB signed a contract with Bombardier on December 16 for the supply of 20 Flexity light rail vehicles for the city’s Regionalbahn project.

Belgium: Freight operator SNCB Logistics has renewed its contract with leasing company Railpool for 36 multi-system Traxx locomotives.

Bulgaria: Sofia tram operator Stolichen Elektrotransport is to procure 20 second-hand 1435 mm gauge trams from Praha for €280000. They are due to be delivered in early 2016.

China: Alstom and its local joint venture Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co have won a €27m contract to supply CRRC Changchun with traction equipment for 160 metro cars for Beijing Line 6 Phase 3.

Faiveley is to supply doors for 38 six-car trains which CRRC Nanjing Puzhen is building for Shanghai Line 12, and 11 four-car trainsets which CSR Puzhen Bombardier is to supply for Line 8.

Hollysys has won two contracts totalling 484m yuan to supply ATP equipment for 179 high speed trainsets.

Europe: RegioJet took delivery of 12 Bcmz couchette cars bought second-hand from Austrian Federal Railways for an undisclosed price for use on Praha – Košice services from December 13.

France: SNCF has awarded Saft a €4m contract to supply replace the life-expired lead acid batteries on around 200 Alstom TER 2N NG EMUs with nickel-based MRX batteries. These offer a service life of around 15 years with no sudden death, and a weight saving of 90 kg per battery system.

Lyon’s Sytral has placed a €20m order for seven Alstom Citadis trams as an option on a 2011 contract for 10. Keolis has awarded Liebherr-Transportation Systems a contract to maintain HVAC units on 85 existing Citadis trams.

Germany: On December 15 Alstom announced a €160m contract to supply 13 three-car and 17 four-car Coradia Continental EMUs to Hessische Landesbahn for use on Netz Südhessen-Untermain services from December 2018. These would be the first Coradia Continental units to meet the Locomotives & Passenger Rolling Stock TSI.

Plauener Straßenbahn has exercised an option for three more Bombardier Flexity trams for €9m.

Ireland: Transport Infrastructure Ireland has placed a €36·5m order for seven Alstom Citadis trams to be delivered for the opening of the Luas Cross City extension of the Green Line at the end of 2017. The nine-module trams will be 54·6 m long.

Italy: On November 30 Siemens announced a contract to supply DB Schenker Rail with eight Vectron DC electric locomotives from late 2016. The freight operator will lease the 5·2 MW locomotives from Unicredit Leasing.

Newag announced on December 10 that it had signed its first EMU contract in Italy, a €20·2m deal to supply Ferrovie del Sud-Est with five three-car 36WE Impuls units from December 2016, with options for up to 10 more within five years. Each set will have capacity for 330 passengers, including 170 seated, with bicycle spaces, LED lighting, CCTV and air-conditioning.

Trenitalia has placed a €190m order for 112 Vivalto double-deck coaches and 24 driving cars from Hitachi Rail Italy, as an option on a contract signed with AnsaldoBreda in March 2010.

Trenord is to spend €170m on a further 10 Hitachi Rail Italy double-deck TSR EMUs and four Vivalto push-pull trainsets, as well as four Stadler GTW DMUs, for use from 2017.

Russia: United Wagon Co’s Tikhvin factory is to supply fertiliser producer Uralkali with 400 Type 19-9870 hopper wagons with a capacity of 76·5 tonnes.

Uralvagonzavod subsidiary UVZ-Logistic has awarded RZD a one-year contract to manage its fleet of 28000 open wagons, which will be pooled with 120000 similar vehicles to improve utilisation.

South Africa: Transnet signed a R12bn club loan with Absa, Nedbank, Bank of China, Futuregrowth Asset Managers and Old Mutual Specialised Finance on November 23, completing the majority of the funding required for its programme to acquire 1 064 locomotives from four manufacturers.

Sweden: SJ has extended a maintenance framework with Euromaint to include coach and X2 wheelsets.

Ukraine: A framework agreement for the potential modernisation of M62 diesel locos was signed by Newag, Skinest and Latvia’s Daugavpils Rolling Stock Repair Plant at a Polish Business Day in Kyiv on November 26. Newag estimates current demand at potentially 150 to 200 locos. Finance could come from Polish export funds.

UK: Eversholt Rail has awarded Alstom’s signalling business SSL a contract for the ‘First in Class’ installation of ETCS on a Class 365 EMU operated by Govia Thameslink, with an option to retrofit the rest of the fleet in time for the installation of ETCS Level 2 on the East Coast Main Line.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has awarded WH Davis Ltd a contract to supply five TSI-compliant nuclear flask carriers to replace Type FNA wagons.

Eversholt Rail has awarded Vossloh Kiepe a contract for the re-tractioning of Class 321 EMUs with three-phase AC traction motors, a single water-cooled inverter per motor and an ABB transformer.
