USA: Wabtec Corp has signed a $40m contract to design, install, test and commission Positive Train Control for South Florida Regional Transportation Authority’s Tri-Rail commuter rail service.
Wabtec is to supply its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System for 42 locomotives and cab cars, along with a back-office server and lineside communications, signalling and a dispatching system for the 110 km route linking Mangonia Park and Miami. It will also provide staff training. Installation is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. The PTC system will be fully interoperable with those being implemented by all the Class I railways.
‘The scope of our work on this project demonstrates the wide-ranging roles that Wabtec can play in the implementation of PTC’, said Wabtec President & CEO Raymond T Betler on May 18. ‘We are continuing to invest worldwide in this important segment of our business.’
