BRAZIL: São Paulo suburban operator CPTM has announced the successful bidders in a tender to supply 65 eight-car EMUs, divided into two lots. Lot 1 has been awarded to a consortium of Hyundai Rotem of South Korea and Iesa Distribuidora Comercial SA of Brazil.

Lot 2 has been awarded to CAF Brasil Indústria e Comércio SA, a subsidiary of the Spanish rolling stock manufacturer. Bids for both lots were also received from Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd of China.

CAF has been supplying rolling stock to CPTM since 1998, its most recent order having been for 36 eight-car EMUs to operate on Line 8. Deliveries began in 2011, with production undertaken at the CAF plant at Hortolândia in the state of São Paulo.
