Book review

by Bernhard Studer

SERVING the mountainous Swiss canton of Graubünden, the 385 km metre gauge Rhaetian Railway network presented huge challenges to construction engineers.

Fully updated since it first appeared in 1994, this 162-page German-language book details the political battles that were fought before work could start – even for the Vereina line which opened in 1999. The soft-back book is attractively presented, and copiously illustrated with up-to-date colour and historic black and white photographs.
