Book review

by Melissa Graham

HAVING ridden from Québec City to Courtenay with the previous edition in his pocket, your reviewer can vouch for the usefulness of this guide to passenger rail travel in Canada.

Now in its fourth edition and expanded to 258 pages, the book is aimed at travellers of all budgets, from backpackers in economy to retirees in Silver & Blue class. It covers the Ocean, Canadian, Skeena, Fraser Discovery, Corridor, Rocky Mountaineer, Hudson Bay and Whistler Mountaineer services, which include some of the most scenic routes in the world.

Histories of the places passed and the railways themselves expand on the details given in the 28-map route guide, and there is full information on travel and ticketing, as well as city guides and maps for 10 major stops.
