HYDROGEN: Alstom and fuel cell compressor manufacturer Liebherr Aerospace & Transportation have signed an agreement to co-operate to improve the reliability and durability of fuel cells, increase their power density and reduce their costs.

‘Our ambition is to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen in the rail industry and to develop innovative solutions in the context of the greening of heavy mobility, including regional trains, shunting locomotives and freight locomotives’, said President of Alstom France Jean-Baptiste Eyméou on November 29. ‘To develop a hydrogen ecosystem, particularly in France, we need to mobilise the public authorities and all the players in this sector. As in many fields, we are innovating through forming partnerships.’

Alstom now has hydrogen collaboration agreements with Italian energy company Snam, which will develop infrastructure for hydrogen production, transport and passenger train refuelling; Plastic Omnium, which develops hydrogen storage systems; Hynamics, which aims to optimise hydrogen refuelling equipment for passenger trains; and UK rolling stock leasing company Eversholt.
