INDIA: The Ministry of Railways has approved the registration of Titagarh Rail Systems as a Wagon Leasing Company under Indian Railways’ Wagon Leasing Scheme, which aims to encourage private sector participation in rolling stock ownership with a view to improving the availability, efficiency and capacity of the national wagon fleet.

On February 10 Titagarh said the registration was a significant strategic development for the company, strengthening its integrated presence across the market to enhance long-term business visibility and value creation.

It plans to offer wagons through flexibly structured leasing models designed to support long-term logistics needs across sectors such as steel, cement, mining, ports and multimodal logistics. These models would enable faster deployment and increased operational efficiency without shippers needing to make significant upfront capital investments.

Wagon Leasing Companies are required to comply with operational, safety, maintenance and regulatory requirements as stipulated by Indian Railways and other competent authorities.
