SPAIN: Trainline has agreed to acquire Barcelona-based online train and bus ticket retailer Trenes.com.
Trainline said the ‘strategic acquisition’ would enable it to integrate the capabilities and talent of Trenes.com, and it would use its Platform One technology to enhance the Trenes.com user experience.
‘The Spanish rail market is leading the way in the liberalisation of European rail, which is driving growth and delivering greater accessibility and variety of service for customers’, said Pedro Garcia, Trainline’s General Manager, EU, on April 17. ‘Trenes.com and Trainline are united in the same mission, to facilitate access to the best travel options at competitive prices, driving more people to choose the sustainable option of rail travel.
’Our acquisition of Trenes.com promises more to Spanish customers and the investment will mean Trenes.com will be able to benefit from our tech innovation and marketing capabilities. In turn, more customers will be able to find and compare the cheapest and most convenient travel options and promote modal shift.’
