FINLAND: National railway VR Group transferred its rolling stock maintenance activities to a new VR Kunnossapito subsidiary with effect from January 1. The wholly-owned subsidiary has 990 staff headed by Kimmo Soini.

VR Group CEO Rolf Jansson said the aim was to grow the maintenance subsidiary’s customer base by expanding into new markets abroad and in other sectors, and to leave the operating side of the group free to focus on passenger and freight traffic.

VR Kunnossapito provides rolling stock maintenance and repair, wagon manufacturing and related technology services, with workshops in Helsinki, Tampere, Kouvola, Joensuu, Kokkola, Oulu, Hyvinkää and Pieksämäki.
