GERMANY: Dresden city transport operator DVB is to include advertising in onboard announcements and information screens.
The first customer is Boulevardtheater Dresden, which is announced at a nearby tram stop serving Freiberger Straße S-Bahn station.
The stop names are not being changed, only the announcements. Sales are managed by Sachsen Media on DVB’s behalf, with bidding starting ‘in the five-digit euro range’ per year. There will only be one advertising customer per stop, and if there are several interested parties, for example for stops in city centre locations, the highest bid will be accepted. Advertisers need to have a nearby presence, political announcements are not permitted, and adverts must meet standards of taste and decency.
DVB said more than 600 000 passengers travel on its services every day, and announcement would be sounded at least 12 times per hour. The operator said the scheme is intended to generate additional revenue to cover the costs of the Deutschlandticket and student tickets, as well as general cost increases.
