Metrans network

EUROPE: The Metrans rail subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen & Logistik has acquired a 51% stake in Croatian operator Adria Rail, which provides freight services from the Adriatic to central and southeastern Europe and operates an inland terminal at Inđija in Serbia.

Metrans is also continuing to invest in Hungary, where construction of a hub terminal in Zalaegerszeg is underway and an additional terminal is to be built in Szeged. Both terminals are scheduled to be operational by 2025.

‘Countries in southeastern Europe are experiencing dynamic growth, therefore new logistics solutions are required’, said Metrans CEO Peter Kiss on March 30. ‘We want to provide climate-friendly rail transport that efficiently connects freight flows and hubs throughout Europe.’

Metrans offers more than 650 regular rail connections per week, and carried 1·4 million TEU in 2022.
