In response to increasing regulatory and operational pressures on long-haul road transport between Serbia and western Europe, DP World and LKW Walter have launched a three times per week intermodal rail service between Novi Sad and Herne in Germany. ‘By connecting Novi Sad to the Rhein-Ruhr region with a scheduled intermodal service, we’re strengthening Serbia’s integration into European supply chains and reinforcing its role as a strategic trade gateway in southeast Europe’, said Gokhan Yurteken, General Manager for DP World Novi Sad. ‘This service will give our customers a faster and more predictable route from Serbia into western Europe, reducing reliance on cross-border trucking operations while improving schedule reliability and cutting emissions.’

North Carolina Railroad Co is invest up to $600 000 to build a rail spur to serve US Forged Rings Inc’s new manufacturing facility in Hertford County which will undertake large-scale metal fabrication for the energy industry. Traffic is predicted o be at least 1 825 wagons per year.

Lineas is to lease two Stadler Euro9000 electro-diesel from a batch of 12 ordered by Alpha Trains in 2023. The first is expected to be delivered during March under a full-service lease with maintenance and technical support by Stadler Rail Services, and will be used on routes from North Sea to the Mediterranean. The deal is being funded with €15m from Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport as part of a programme to increase the share of low-emission and alternative propulsion systems in passenger and freight rail by reducing the additional investment costs involved.
