ITALY: Services have started on two newly rebuilt sections of the 145 km Napoli – Bari line, which is being upgraded for 200 to 250 km/h operations.
The 18 km Cancello – Frasso Telesino – Dugenta section was rebuilt by the CFT Consortium led by Impresa Pizzarotti, comprising Itinera and Ghella. The €1·7bn project centred on the completion of the 4·2 km Monte Aglio Tunnel.
A 3 km section between San Lorenzo Maggiore and Ponte Casalduni has also been opened to traffic. Forming part of the €470m Telese – Vitulano work package, this section was delivered by the Telese Scarl consortium, consisting of Ghella, Itinera, Salcef, and Coget Impianti.
The route between Napoli and Bovino, which offers a link to the Adriatic Corridor towards Bari and Foggia, is being partially double-tracked and the maximum line speed is being increased to 200 to 250 km/h for a total cost of €5·8bn. The Bovino – Cervaro section was first to be rebuilt, and this was inaugurated in 2017.
