ITALY: Open access operator NTV has revealed the appearance of the eight 250 km/h Pendolino trainsets which it ordered from Alstom in October. Deliveries are scheduled for late 2017 and entry into service for early 2018.

The design was created by Alstom's Design & Styling Centre, which was responsible for NTV’s Italo-branded fleet of AGV high speed trains. The trainsets will be an evolution of the Pendolino family, modified to meet 2014 TSI regulations. Alstom said the ‘fire red’ trainsets would feature a ‘futuristic’ front end designed to provide crash protection. The seven-car trainsets will be 187 m long, with capacity for around 480 passengers. The interior styling is to be selected and unveiled in the coming months.

‘With more than 500 trainsets sold worldwide and over 1 000 million km achieved in commercial service, the Pendolino is one of Alstom's flagship products, made in Italy in our high-speed competence centre of Savigliano’, said Andreas Knitter, Senior Vice-President of Alstom Europe. ‘NTV's choice contributes to supporting the local industry, which we very much welcome.’
