SAUDI ARABIA: Vossloh Fastening Systems announced on November 28 that it had won a €30m contract to supply rail fastenings for the 444 km Haramain high speed line that is to run from Madinah to Jeddah and Makkah.

Deliveries are due to start before the end of the year, with the line set to be operational in 2015. Services would run at speeds of up to 320 km/h.

Noting local conditions such as extreme temperature variations and the difficult subsoil conditions, Vossloh CEO Werner Andree said that ‘this demanding project constitutes another reference in one of the strongest growing rail markets in the world. Moreover, it gives us the opportunity to prove the high quality and reliability of our systems on the world’s first high speed line across the desert.’
