CROATIA: Plans to reopen the disused railway between Sisak Caprag and Petrinja have been announced.

The 10·1 km long single-track route formed part of the Sisak Caprag – Karlovac line which closed with outbreak of hostilities in 1991-95.

Petrinja and the Banovina region were heavily damaged by an earthquake in December 2020, and reopening of the railway is envisaged as part of the reconstruction process.

Minister of the Sea, Transport & Infrastructure Oleg Butković explained that the reopening would be financed through a €1bn loan which is to be used to support the modernisation of local railways that are not eligible for EU funding.
