SPAIN: With the aim of opening the route to traffic next year, ADIF has called tenders for a contract to design, install and maintain signalling and telecommunications equipment on 167 km of high speed infrastructure between Albacete and Alacant.

As with construction of the Olmedo - Ourense route, work will be undertaken as a public-private partnership, with the winning bidder contributing to the funding package and ADIF taking a 10% stake in the special purpose vehicle that will undertake the project.

A budget of €4468m has been set for the contract, which includes the installation of GSM-R as well as work on adjacent conventional routes to replace signalling equipment incompatible with 25 kV AC electrification.
