
HUNGARY: National infrastructure manager MÁV Pályamüködtetési Zrt has signed an agreement for the transfer of maintenance and management of 752 km of railway in the northwest of the country to GySEV.
The operation and cooperation agreement signed on July 1 provides for all rights and obligations related to the management and maintenance of the infrastructure to be transferred to the Hungarian-Austrian cross-border railway group.
From July 1, GySEV has also taken over the operation of passenger services between Zalaegerszeg and Celldömölk. Further transfer of train operations on the routes in question is dependent on rolling stock being secured.

The infrastrcuture being transferred covers the following routes:
- Győrszabadhegy – Celldömölk;
- Győrszabadhegy – Veszprém;
- Veszprémvarsány – Franciavágás section, (freight only);
- Pápa – Csorna;
- Zalaszentiván – Nagykanizsa;
- Porpác – Székesfehérvár (excluding Székesfehérvár station);
- Zalaegerszeg – Rédics;
- Zalabér-Batyk – Zalaszentgrót (freight only);
- Boba – Őriszentpéter;
- Ukk – Balatonszentgyörgy (excluding Balatonszentgyörgy station);
- Hajmáskér – Csajág section (excluding Csajág station, freight only);
- Murakeresztúr – Balatonszentgyörgy;
- Murakeresztúr – Gyékényes.
The change in management of these regional routes forms part of a wider restructuring of the Hungarian rail sector which has seen the Budapest government grow its stake in GySEV.
