DENMARK: Minister for Transport Henrik Dam Kristensen launched construction of the København - Ringsted line and parallel motorway by digging the first hole for the project on September 6.

Kristensen focused on the international aspect of the line, saying 'together with the Øresund Bridge and Fehmarn Belt fixed link this project will connect Scandinavia with Central Europe.'

The 60 km new railway will provide a second double-track route between København and Ringsted, allowing 250 km/h operation for the first time in Denmark. The line is estimated to cost DKr10·4bnm, with completion planned by 2018.
