SPAIN: On June 1 the government authorised ADIF Alta Velocidad to call tenders for reconstruction of the station at Santiago de Compostela.

To be delivered within a budget of €27∙8m, the rebuilding contract is expected to run for 30 months. Full design and technical approval has already been granted by the infrastructure manager.

The refurbishment will see a raft erected above the tracks, carrying enhanced passenger waiting areas and other amenities. The deck will also provide better integration with a new bus station being developed adjacent to the railway, creating an intermodal interchange.

The revamp of the station facilities comes less than four years after a significant remodelling at the track level was completed by ADIF AV at a cost of €9m. This covered improvements to the track layout, platforms and canopies.
