Bozankaya presented one of the 18 three-section, 1 000 mm gauge trams it is supplying for Iași.

INTERNATIONAL: Bozankaya signed a contract for the supply of 10 trams for the Polish city of Elbląg at the Trako International Railway Fair in Gdańsk on September 23.

The Turkish manufacturer also presented one of the 18 three-section, 1 000 mm gauge trams it is supplying for the Romanian city of Iași.

Elbląg order

The 95m złoty deal announced at the fair covers the supply of 10 unidirectional, air-conditioned, low-floor or partially low-floor trams, between 19 and 24 m long.

Components for the trams are to be supplied by Polish company Medcom, and the vehicles are scheduled to arrive in Elbląg by September 2027.

The contract includes the provision of maintenance, the supply of service equipment, spare parts, and staff training.

The contract has been placed by the city of Elbląg as part of a 183·8m złoty investment programme to modernise the tram network. This also includes the reconstruction of six sections of tracks, expansion of the Browarna Street depot, and the purchase of a zero-emission technical and rescue vehicle. The programme is being backed by 126m złoty of funding from the European Union.

Three-section Iași tram unveiled

During the Trako fair, Bozankaya showcased in Gdańsk one of the 18 three-section trams it is supplying for Iași under a 168m lei contract signed in April 2024.

The 20 m long unidirectional trams have a capacity of 200 passengers including 40 seated. Each car has four sets of doors and one wheelchair space. The first six vehicles have already been delivered to Iași, and are currently on test.

Bozankaya had earlier delivered 16 five-section vehicles to  Iași under a separate contract, and these are now in regular service.
