IRELAND: Midland Steel Group supplied and installed its FasterFix offsite rebar system to accelerate the replacement of the George’s Dock Bridge on Dublin’s Luas light rail Red Line. The previous bridge required demolition after a fire in August caused extensive damage to the beams, abutments and rail systems.

The project was undertaken by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, GPX Rail and Midland Steel, which said the rapid reconstruction demonstrates how modern methods of construction and advanced offsite rebar work can deliver major time savings on infrastructure projects.

Two Midland Steel technicians completed the full bridge reinforcement installation in one day, accelerating the overall project timeline. Services resumed on November 28.

‘This was a large and complex project that would normally take much longer to complete’, said Luas. ‘Thanks to a strong collaborative effort across all teams, we are now able to reopen the Red Line ahead of Christmas, ensuring customers can travel easily through the Docklands at this busy time of year.’

Tony Woods, CEO of Midland Steel Group, said ‘this project showcases how innovation, collaboration and the right technology can make a measurable difference in critical infrastructure delivery. Our FasterFix system allows teams to build faster and safer, with minimal disruption, and we’re proud to have contributed to getting the Luas Red Line moving again so quickly.’
