Ostrava tram

CZECH REPUBLIC: City transport operator DP Ostrava has begun dynamic testing of the first of 35 Škoda Transportation ForCity Smart 39T trams which are being supplied under a KC1·7bn contract. Formal handover is scheduled for early next year.

The contract for the 35 trams was signed at InnoTrans 2018, and the operator has an option for a further five vehicles.

The first six of the trams are being supplied from the Škoda Transportation plant in Plzeň, with the rest to be assembled locally at the former Ekova Electric tram and bus maintenance site which Škoda Transportation acquired from DP Ostrava in 2020.

The 80 km/h twin-section vehicles are 26·6 m long with an empty weight of just over 36 tonnes and a capacity of 60 seated and 140 standing passengers. They are equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV, wi-fi and USB sockets.
