TAIWAN: The New Taipei City Government has awarded Huang Chang Construction a contract to build a 3·8 km elevated section of the Wanda-Shulin (Light Green) metro line between Tucheng and Shulin. Forming the initial segment of Phase 2, construction is to start by the end of the year for completion by 2031.
The 9·5 km underground Phase 1 between Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall in the centre and Juguang to the southwest is 81·7% complete, and is scheduled to open at the end of 2027, New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi said on October 7.
The 13·2 km long, mostly elevated Phase 2 will extend the line to an interchange with Taipei Metro’s Orange Line at Huilong.
Alstom is supplying 35 four-car Metropolis trainsets for the Wanda Line from its factory at Taubaté in Brazil.
The metro will serve territories in both Taipei itself and New Taipei City, and the operator will be Taipei Metro rather than New Taipei Metro Corp.
