ASIA: Singapore metro operator SMRT Corp hosted the bi-annual Taiwan Metro Alliance Meeting for the first time on March 4-6, bringing together Taipei Rapid Transit Corp, New Taipei Metro Corp, Taoyuan Metro Corp, Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corp and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp to discuss joint procurement initiatives, strengthening asset life cycle management and exploring innovative approaches to grow non-fare revenue.
The Metro Alliance was formed in 2023, and at the invitation of the group SMRT joined in 2024 as the only operator outside Taiwan.
‘Urban rail transit systems face increasingly complex challenges, including rising commuter expectations, accelerating technological transformation, greater demands for climate resilience and mounting pressure for financial sustainability’, said SMRT Group CEO Ngien Hoon Ping.
‘With open sharing of experience and expertise, the Metro Alliance provides us with a platform for systematic collaboration. This allows us to move collectively towards greater alignment of technical standards, supply chain coordination, accelerated digital transformation and shared management experience.’
