THAILAND: Nokia is working with Singapore’s ST Engineering and local partner First One Systems to deploy an IP/MPLS-based mission-critical Backbone Transmission Network for the future Bangkok MRT Orange Line.

Nokia will develop two BTNs, 10G and 40G, to provide operator Bangkok Expressway & Metro with a high-capacity, low-latency, reliable and secure transmission backbone. This will support both vital and non-vital voice, data and video applications including CCTV, public announcements, passenger information displays, radio communication and SCADA.

It will include the supply of Nokia’s 7250 Interconnect Router, Nokia 7210 Service Access System, Nokia Network Services Platform and associated professional services.

‘Our deep understanding of the local landscape, combined with Nokia’s proven technology and ST Engineering’s system integration excellence, ensures that this mission-critical communication system will meet the highest international standards’, said First One Systems CEO Terdsak Kijjatikankun on October 22.

The 35·9 km Orange Line is scheduled to open in two phases, starting with the 22·5 km, 17-station outer section from the eastern terminus at Yaek Rom Klao to Thailand Cultural Centre in 2028. The 13·4 km link across the city centre to Bang Khun Non is scheduled to follow in 2030.
