THAILAND: Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand has selected the winning bidders for two major construction contracts under its Bangkok commuter rail expansion programme.

State Railway of Thailand has approved a budget of 20·8bn baht for the extensions.

Unique Engineering & Construction was awarded the contract for the 8·8 km extension of the Dark Red Line from Rangsit to Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus in Pathum Thani, submitting the lowest bid of 6·1bn baht.

The UT joint venture of Uniq and Trusty Construction secured the Light Red Line works contract with a bid of 14·7bn baht. This covers works on the corridor including three stations at Rama VI, Bang Kruai-EGAT and Baan Chim Phli, consolidating previously planned projects into a single contract covering the full 20·5 km route.

Construction of both projects is expected to take 36 months, with completion scheduled for February 2029 ahead of a planned opening in March 2029.
