Luoyang has become the second city in Henan province with a metro, following the opening of the east–west Line 1.

CHINA: Luoyang has become the second city in Henan province with a metro, following the opening of the east–west Line 1.

The line was formally opened on March 28, with passenger services starting the following day.

The line runs 25·3 km from Yangwan to Hongshan, with 19 stations including the elevated western terminus at Hongshan where the depot is also located.

Construction began in June 2017 and cost 18bn yuan. Luoyang CRRC Rail Transit Equipment Co has supplied 22 six-car Type B trainsets, with a crush load capacity of 2 062 passengers and styling inspired by ‘the spirit of the Silk Road’.

GoA2 attended automatic operation is used, with an operating speed of 80 km/h and an end-to-end journey time of 43 min.

In December 2017 work began on the 18·2 km, 15-station north-south Line 2 linking Erqiao Lu and Longmen Dadao which is expected to open later this year.

Extensions at both ends of Line 2 are planned, along with the construction of lines 3 and 4.
