INDIA: Mumbai Metro Regional Development Authority has awarded Larsen & Toubro and its partner Alstom the rolling stock and signalling systems contract for Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Green).
This will see Alstom supply 39 six-car Metropolis trainsets and communications-based train control and provide five years of maintenance services. Contract CA-234 also includes telecoms, platform screen doors and depot equipment.
The elevated Line 4 will run 35·3 km from Wadala in central Mumbai to Kasarvadavali in Thane with 32 stations.
The trainsets will be designed at Alstom’s Bengaluru engineering centre and manufactured at its Sri City factory, with traction equipment from Coimbatore and bogies from Savli.
Alstom said the driverless trains would feature a unique design. They will have interior airflow cooling, wheelchair access and bicycle racks.
Alstom will provide its FlexCare Perform maintenance services.
The Urbalis CBTC supporting GoA4 unattended driverless operation will be supplied from Bengaluru. The control centre at Mandale depot and the backup control centre at Mogharpada will use Alstom’s Urbalis Vision control and monitoring platform.
‘Alstom-built trains and signalling solutions are already serving on other Mumbai metro lines’ said Alstom’s APAC Region President Ling Fang on August 26. ‘This ambitious new project presents more opportunities for us to provide best-in-class solutions to the commuters and contribute to elevating the financial capital’s infrastructure.’
