NETHERLANDS: The first tram for the Uithoflijn in Utrecht has been delivered from CAF’s factory in Spain to the Nieuwegein sneltram depot.

Haulage company Van der Vlist used a 40 m bespoke trailer to transport the 32 m long tram through Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands. A specially designed winch and ramp were used to enable loading and unloading without the need for external tools.

CAF is supplying 27 low-floor trams for the 7·5 km line with nine stops that will link Utrecht Centraal station to Utrecht Science Park De Uithof from mid-2018. Royal BAM Group is undertaking infrastructure work, including construction of the track, electrification and stops. Infrastructure design is being carried out by Arcadis. Edilon Sedra has now begun the installation of 7 track-km of Corkelast Embedded Rail System.
