RUSSIA: Two prototype Vityaz-M trams entered revenue service in Moscow on March 17. They had arrived at arrived at the Bauman depot on January 27.

Moscow tram operator Mosgortrans ordered 300 three-section trams from a consortium of Transmashholding subsidiary Metrowagonmash and PK Transportnye Systemy last year. Deliveries from TMH’s Tver Carriage Works are due to take place at a rate of 100 trams per year to 2019. The contract includes 30 years of maintenance.

Each tram has capacity for 260 passengers, including 60 seated. The trams are equipped with CCTV, wi-fi and a passenger information system. Emergency traction batteries enable the trams to run for up to 1·5 km in the event of a overhead power failure.
