SPAIN: Corsán and Bruesa have been awarded a €34·9m contract for civil works on the 7 km Fuente de Piedra – Antequera section of the 128 km high speed line between Sevilla and Antequera being built by the Andalucía ?regional government. Work will take 23 months.

Between Marchena and Antequera, contracts have now been awarded for over 60% of the route, while alignment design is in progress between Sevilla and Marchena. Combined with the Huelva – Sevilla and Antequera – Granada – Almería projects being taken forward by the national Ministry of Development, the new route will form a high speed corridor traversing Andalucía from west to east.

On the Sevilla – Cádiz route, the ministry’s infrastructure construction body Seitt has awarded a joint venture of Construcciones Vera, Joca Ingeniería y Construcciones and Contratas Intervías Del Levante a €45·9m contract to ?upgrade the 9·3 km El Cuervo – Aeropuerto de Jerez section, including double-tracking and the construction of six bridges to eliminate level crossings. The sleepers will enable future conversion to 1 435 mm gauge.

Within a budget of €12·5m, bids are being invited to build a station to serve Jerez de la Frontera airport, equipped with 160 m platforms on loops off the main line. A separate contract covers upgrading the 7·8 km Aeropuerto de Jerez – Jerez Norte section, expected to take 30 months within a budget of €46·3m.
