Panamá City monorail Line 3 maintenance (image DTRO)

A consortium of Daegu Transportation Corp, Hyundai Engineering & Construction and two other companies has been awarded a contract for the maintenance of 26 trainsets and 28 sets of switches for  Panamá City monorail Line 3, which is currently under construction. The contract runs for one year and 10 months, up to the scheduled opening of the line.

A 2·4 km one-station eastern extension of Ningbo metro Line 4 from Dongqian Lake to International Conference Centre was opened on May 16, taking the line to a total length of 40·2 km with 27 stations.

Milano transport operator ATM has formed a joint venture with Alstom to bid for the next Dublin Luas tram operations and maintenance contract. ATM said it would bring extensive experience of managing multimodal urban networks, while Alstom has global light rail expertise, including supplying the Dublin trams. These are currently operated by Transdev under contract to Transport Infrastructure Ireland. ATM has operated public transport in Milano since 1931, København since 2008 and Thessaloniki since 2023. 

On May 13 Mosproject-3 signed contracts worth 13·2bn roubles for CRRC’s 16th Directorate to build fast light rail line tunnels in Chelyabinsk and Krasnoyarsk

This year 260 Hong Kong secondary school pupils in 65 teams took part in MTR Corp’s Train for Life’s Journey 2·0 programme which aims to develop future skills.  Online learning modules and workshops covered design thinking, technology applications, financial literacy and entrepreneurship, and sought ideas to improve disability inclusion, gender equality, ethnic diversity and intergenerational relationships. The winning teams will be offered study tours to MTR businesses in Melbourne and Hangzhou.     

The European Commission has approved Rethmann’s acquisition of sole control of Transdev from co-owner Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations. The Commission concluded that the proposed deal would not raise competition concerns as the companies were not active in the same or related markets. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger control procedure.

BKM Holding has begun delivering T811 trams to Vitsyebsk in Belarus.  

UITP has launched the Eurasia-MENA Urban Rail Platform, which will meet twice a year to co-ordinate activities in the fields of automation, predictive maintenance and asset management, cybersecurity, AI integration and digitalisation, service quality and operational efficiency. Working Groups will be formed based on participant interest to allow deeper dives into specific technical areas or strategic topics.
