2_CITYLINK arrives in Saarbrücken

Stadler Valenica has delivered the first 28 Citylink tram-trains ordered by Saarbrucken’s Saarbahn for entry into service from H1 2026. It is the first of up to 504 vehicles to be supplied under a framework contract awarded jointly by six German and Austrian transport organisations, and some of the approval testing for Saarbahn’s vehicles will also be valid for the other partners, reducing overall costs. The vehicles ‘represent greater travel comfort, are a visible sign of a modern metropolis, and are also a symbol of cross-border collaboration and European unity’, said Mayor Uwe Conradt.

On June 6, Los Angeles Metro opened LAX/Metro Transit Center station at Los Angeles International Airport, served by light rail lines C and K. With the opening, Line C was extended by 1·9 km northwards from Aviation/Century to LAX/Metro TC, and Line K started to run between Expo/Crenshaw and Redondo Beach, completing the K Line project. 

Outokumpu is to supply Alstom with Circle Green stainless steel which they say will have a carbon footprint 85% to 93% lower than the global industry average. The first deliveries will take place in 2026, for use as the outer layer of Alstom Metropolis metro cars. Alstom aims to reduce emissions from procured goods and services by 30% by 2030.

On June 5, Filipino Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has asked Manila metro line MRT3 maintenance provider Sumitomo Corp to accelerate the testing of the 48 three-section light rail vehicles built by CNR Dalian (now CRRC Dalian) under a January 2014 contract. The vehicles are not yet in full revenue service due to compatibility problems between the trains and the depot equipment.

CAF has awarded Hübner a contract to supply 612 gangways for 102 light rail vehicles it is to build for Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Boston Green Line. Following the successful first article inspection at Hübner headquarters at Kassel in Germany, final assembly with local added value will take place at its US locations in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Dunlap, Tennessee. Production will run to 2030.  

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism and Thailand’s Ministry of Transport have signed a memorandum of co-operation covering railways and urban development, including maintenance support for Bangkok’s Red Line and transit-oriented development, high speed rail and freight.

Deutsche Bahn has awarded a consortium including Sweco a 4½ year contract, extendable for a further five years, to provide construction supervision services for the expansion of the München S-Bahn including the second cross-city tunnel.

Chicago Transit Authority and Cook County Health are to install vending machines at five stations to dispense free Naloxone nasal spray that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. The locations have been selected based on emergency responses and community input.
