This week’s round-up of news from the urban transport sector.

On February 3 operator Euskotren signed a €48·8m contract for CAF to supply nine 44 m long, seven-section 100% low floor trams to Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2028-29 in readiness for the opening of a proposed extension of the network to serve the suburb of Zabaigana.The trams will be equipped with a new type of air-conditioning system, designed to cope with days of intense heat. The contract also covers spare parts for maintenance over an initial four-year period, and a driving simulator.
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has awarded a joint venture of Woh Hup Engineering and Underground Technology Engineering Construction a S$326m contract for the design and construction of tunnels between stations DE1 and DE2 for the Downtown Line 2 extension project and a tunnel connection to Gali Batu Depot, along with associated additions and alterations works within the depot. The three bored tunnels will each be 1 km long and up to 21 m deep. It is the first civils contract for the DTL2e, with construction expected to start by Q2 2026 for opening in 2035.

Alstom’s West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, plant has completed delivery of the base order of 26 Innovia APM R cars to modernise Denver International Airport’s Automated Guideway Transit System fleet. An additional 19 were ordered in 2025 cars, which will replace all 31 original vehicles and expand the fleet to 45 cars.

No offers had been received by the deadline for tenders called by national operator MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt for the supply of 18 electric multiple-units for Budapest HÉV suburban routes with an option of 36 more. The Ministry of Construction & Transport said on February 5 that new tenders will be called which could be funded by national sources, and it was now examining possibilities to reallocate the HF114bn of European Union funding available with a 2029 completion deadline.

Moskva Metro has awarded PK TC a 587m rouble contract to retrofit 20 three-section 71-931M Vityaz-M trams with onboard energy storage systems enabling them to travel up to 4 km at a speed of at least 20 km/h on routes T1 and T2. The only Moskva trams currently equipped with similar systems are single-section vehicles.
WIKA Beton and Larsen & Toubro are to supply sleepers and track, ready-mix concrete and install electrical systems for Jakarta MRT Phase 2A.

Tracklaying in the 8·2 km tunnel at the heart of the Tainan Railway Underground Project was completed on January 30. The project is intended to place a section of railway around the main station underground, with opening of the new alignment expected by the end of the year.

To facilitate reconstruction of the Raml tram network in Alexandria, Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels has announced the phased suspension of services, starting with the Victoria – Mustafa Kamel section on February 1. The rest of the network is to cease operations from April 1.
