KAZAKHSTAN: Four Type EP3D electric multiple-units supplied by Transmashholding’s Demikhovsky Engineering Plant entered service with national railway KTZ this month.

They are being used on the 240 km route from Astana south to Karaganda and the 300 km route north from Astana to Kokshetau.

The order for the EMUs placed in September was the first for the 25 kV 50 Hz derivative of the 3 kV DC Type EP2D. The six-car units have three classes of accommodation, with two cars of each, as well as a buffet area. There is a wheelchair space near a powered lift which can be lowered to accommodate the lowest platforms. Onboard entertainment content in Kazakh, Russian and English can be accessed via wi-fi.
