National Express orders Talent 2 electric multiple-units

GERMANY: National Express Group's German subsidiary has awarded Bombardier Transportation a €170m contract to supply 35 Talent 2 electric multiple-units.

The order announced on June 4 covers a mix of three and five-car sets. The 160 km/h air-conditioned units will have first and second class seating, CCTV, multi-purpose areas for prams, wheelchairs and bicycles, and passenger information displays showing connecting trains. Each unit will have an accessible toilet, and the five-car units will have an additional standard toilet.

The units are to be deployed on the RE7 Rhein-Münsterland-Express and RB48 Rhein-Wupper-Bahn services, which a consortium of National Express and local partner IntEgro Verkehr is to operate from December 2015 under a 15-year contract awarded in February by the Rhein-Ruhr, Westfalen-Lippe and Rheinland transport authorities.
