GERMANY: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern transport authority VMV has awarded incumbent Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn the next contract to operate Ostseeküste II passenger services along the Baltic Sea coast.

The contract awarded to ODEG on March 1 covers the operation of services RE9 Rostock – Stralsund – Sassnitz/Binz and RE10 Rostock – Stralsund – Züssow for 13 years from December 12 2021.

The services total 1·8 million train-km/year and will be operated using seven Siemens Mobility Desiro ML EMUs. These were procured by ODEG through leasing company Alpha Trains as part of its current directly-awarded two-year operating contract, and are scheduled to be lengthened from three to four cars this year.
