POLAND: RegioJet launched two daily return trains between Warszawa and Poznań on an open access basis on February 1 and added another four pairs of trains on March 1. Meanwhile, fellow open access player Leo Express extended its Praha – Kraków open access service to Warszawa on March 1, enabling the operator to carry domestic passengers in Poland for the first time.

More RegioJet trains to Poznań

RegioJet ran its first service to Poznań from Warszawa Wschodnia at 06.13 on February 1, and it is now running a total of six return trains each day between the two cities.

RegioJet had originally planned to launch the Poznań service in December, and it told local media that the main reason of the delayed start was an insufficient number of train drivers.

The Czech company started its open access services in the Polish domestic market on September 18 2025 on the Warszawa – Kraków route, following a decision by Polish rail regulator UTK to grant approval for new entrants to bid for paths on key domestic routes.

Leo Express launch

Leo Express’s inaugural service left Warszawa Wschodnia at 07.21 on March 1 bound for Praha via Kraków. The operator now offers either three or four Praha – Kraków return trips per day, with two of these extending to and from Warszawa.

The company’s CEO Peter Köhler attended the inaugural journey and said ‘competition in rail transport brings significant savings for public finances and taxpayers. We are demonstrating that it is possible to operate services on key routes entirely without subsidies and at our own commercial risk.’

The operator also announced its intention to introduce its leased Talgo trainsets on April 30 on services from Praha on destinations to Slovakia.
