SLOVAKIA: ZOS Vrútky rolled out on June 16 the first of 12 Class 861 three-car regional DMUs ordered by ZSSK under a €53m contract signed in April 2009. They will operate around Nitra, Humenné, Presov, Kosice and Prievidza.

The partly low-floor units comprise two driving motor cars and an intermediate trailer. They have a total of 177 second-class seats supplied by Borcad, and air-conditioning, CCTV, passenger information, electric sockets and space for bicycles, prams and bulky luggage. Siemens supplied the bogies, and the two 400 kW MAN engines and Voith hydraulic transmission give the 96 tonne units a top speed of 140 km/h.
